Search Shelby County Recent Arrests

Shelby County recent arrests start with the county custody system. Memphis sits at the center of it. City police, the sheriff, a local holding site, or another agency can make the arrest. A fresh name may not appear at once. Someone released may need a wider search too. The smart move is simple. Match the booking to the police, court, or notice source that answers the real question, whether that is who was arrested in Shelby County or where a case stands now.

Shelby County Recent Arrest Sources

The sheriff's office runs a searchable custody system called the IML roster. You reach it through its Who's in Jail page. It is not a timestamped list of every arrest today. Lookups work two ways. Enter a first name, last name, and date of birth, or search by identifier. Both paths share an "Include released inmates" choice. Use it when the person may have left custody but an official entry remains searchable.

The department publishes no separate 24-hour feed or multi-day blotter with fixed depth. For date-based angles, the Arrested Today page lays out private views alongside official checks. Arrest Reports digs into the wider private archives. Neither one outranks the roster itself.

A Shelby County booking entry shows arrest facts, not court outcomes.

Search the Shelby Arrest Roster

The official IML roster offers two search routes. One path takes a first name, last name, and date of birth. The other takes a chosen identifier plus its value. This view of the SCSO search screen shows the neutral controls. A blank result is not final. Spelling errors, intake lag, transfer, release, and protected records can all hide a name.

Shelby County arrest roster search fields

The blank interface explains the lookup without exposing anyone’s data.

FieldUse
NameStarts a person search
Date of birthSeparates similar names
IdentifierUses a known official number
Released optionBroadens beyond current custody

Begin with the exact legal name. Add a date of birth only when lawfully known. If current custody is not the whole question, run the released option too, since released bookings stay searchable for a time. Save the booking number; records and court staff can use it. Call SCSO when timing is urgent.

When Shelby Arrests Appear

Booking is a process. It is not one instant. The SCSO jail FAQ walks through fingerprints, photographs, warrant and NCIC checks, medical screening, classification, and release work. Average release processing runs under two hours. Actual release often comes three to six hours after an order. Those hours describe jail operations, not website timing; the official process page adds that context.

Shelby County arrest booking and release process

A fresh arrest can sit outside the roster for a while. Memphis Police sends detainees into Shelby County custody. Bartlett keeps incident records but posts no public city booking feed. Collierville operates a Type 2 temporary holding site. There a person may be fingerprinted, photographed, and screened before transport to county jail. City and county records can appear at different times.

Shelby County Arrest Record Fields

A booking record documents intake facts. It can change after release, transfer, or court action. Exact public fields depend on the record itself, so never infer a bond, a location, or a photo from a blank search form.

FieldMeaning
Booking numberRequest and court locator
Booking timeIntake time, not always arrest time
AgencyOfficer’s agency when recorded
ChargeCharge, not disposition
StatusCustody state when updated

Skip medical data, victim identities, juvenile details, confidential-source material, full birth dates, and sealed content. Tennessee's open-records law reaches photographs and electronic files. Exemptions and redactions still apply. The custodian decides what can lawfully be released.

Shelby Arrest Mugshots and Photos

Photos are taken during processing, SCSO confirms. The search form promises no photo with every result. An image may not stay online after release either. For an existing photo, ask the Public Records Request Coordinator, name the booking, and request a cost estimate.

The TDOC FOIL search is a separate tool. It covers felony offenders now or formerly in Tennessee correctional custody or supervision. A result may include a photo, status, location, aliases, sentence dates, and release details. FOIL is not a Shelby recent-arrest feed, and absence from it does not disprove a county booking.

Arrests.org, RecentlyBooked, Busted Newspaper, and Mugshots.com may carry secondary copies and photos. Those copies often go stale. Treat them as leads after official sources.

Request a Shelby Arrest Record

Start at the SCSO records page. It lists the Public Records Request Coordinator at 201 Poplar Avenue, Room 9-15, Memphis, TN 38103, phone 901-222-5656. The fax line is 901-222-5657. Records and Identification sits at 901-222-4944, with posted hours of 8:00 to 4:00 on weekdays, excluding holidays.

  1. Name the existing booking sheet, arrest ticket, release record, photo, or report.
  2. Give the legal name, narrow date range, agency, and booking number when known.
  3. Ask for fees, redactions, withholding grounds, and a time estimate before paying.
  4. Keep the request and reply for any later review.

Fees run $15 for an arrest ticket, $5 for added copies, and $20 for release verification. SCSO posts no separate booking-photo fee. Confirm the current payment form first. Tennessee does not force an agency to build a new compilation, so a precise request beats a demand for all arrests. No fixed photo turnaround is promised.

Tennessee Arrest Law and Removal

Tennessee sets no statewide anti-pay-to-remove rule for private publishers. The legal route is eligibility-based expungement under Tenn. Code Ann. §40-32-101, with Tennessee Courts guidance available. Expungement is not automatic. Eligibility turns on the disposition and current law.

A court order and a private policy are separate things. Keep a certified order and follow up with each named agency. Busted Newspaper and Mugshots.com publish free document-based correction routes, while no clear free route exists for Arrests.org or RecentlyBooked in Shelby. Never assume payment is required, and the published private correction policy spells out one such route.

Shelby County arrest listing correction policy

It is a private process, not a court order or guaranteed result.

Never wire money or hand over sensitive papers to an intermediary you have not verified. Confirm the official disposition and the current free policy first.

Google can refresh a stale search result once its source page changes. The record itself survives, though, along with other copies and the agency's own file.

Shelby Arrest Warrants and Wanted Cases

The SCSO Fugitive Division tracks roughly 20,000 active warrants, makes about 850 warrant arrests each month, and clears around 3,300 warrants monthly alongside fugitive units. Treat those as workload numbers, not a live count. The official search may require JavaScript to load. A warrant is not a jail booking. Search the warrant source first, then check IML for current custody. For safe resolution, call the sheriff, the court, or an attorney. Never approach a wanted person yourself. Memphis Most Wanted is an aging CrimeStoppers warrant channel, so a listing there is not evidence of a fresh arrest.

After a Shelby County Arrest

The roster settles who is in custody. Case histories and hearing schedules live in the registered CJS portal after court entry. Older matters may require an indictment number plus a booking number, while records after November 5, 2016 follow an Odyssey-style number.

Booking
Administrative intake.
Arraignment
Early court appearance.
Bond
Release terms while a case is pending.
Disposition
The later court outcome.
Expungement
A court process for eligible records.

Charges can be reduced or dropped after booking, so match the arrest record to the court file before assuming anything.

Shelby Arrest Custody Changes

SCSO logs about 56,000 bookings a year. It houses an average daily census near 2,800 across two jail facilities. In 2025 it also reported regional housing for 384 pretrial inmates. State transfers came to 349 sentenced people. When a result changes, a facility move is often the reason. Federal custody runs through BOP and U.S. Marshals channels. An ICE detainer is a request for brief continued local custody, not a new charge. It also does not prove ICE holds the person. TN SAVIN and VINELink send alerts. They cover release, transfer, escape, return, and other listed custody events. The VINE Arrest Check breaks down how each works. The sheriff app covers news, tips, and public-safety tools rather than a booking roster.

Recent Arrests by Shelby City

Memphis Recent Arrests separates MPD reports from county custody, and Bartlett Recent Arrests pairs Bartlett Records with the county check. Collierville Recent Arrests walks through the local holding-to-transfer sequence. Local news adds context, but it picks and chooses rather than logging every arrest.

Where Shelby Arrest Records Live

One arrest can scatter records across several offices. The arresting police department may hold an incident report, citation, or photographs. Dispatch audio and evidence logs may sit there too. SCSO keeps the county jail intake and release material. The clerk holds the court case once it is filed. TN SAVIN carries custody-event notices. TDOC and federal agencies maintain later custody records under their own authority. Pick the custodian first. That keeps a request from landing at an office that never held the item. Memphis Police Central Records takes online, in-person, mail, and fax requests for MPD material. Bartlett Records maintains accident and criminal-incident reports and uses NextRequest for multi-record research. Collierville runs an in-person city arrest-history process limited to Collierville arrests and charges. None of these city paths replaces the county booking record. By the same token, do not assume SCSO holds every city police image. City dispatch records may not be there either. Ask for a specific item, not a conclusion. A booking sheet for one person is easier to locate. Give an approximate date rather than a request for everything about the arrest. A booking number, warrant number, report number, agency, and narrow date range cut confusion. If an item is withheld, ask the custodian for the legal basis. Then ask about the available review route.

Shelby Arrest Photos by Custodian

A booking photo is taken when a person is processed into custody at SCSO. The office's FAQ lists photographing as a standard step in booking. Even so, the public arrest roster makes no promise that every image gets posted. If a photo is missing online, that tells you nothing. The sheriff's office may still hold one in its files. A requester who names the booking can ask three things: whether the photo is public, what redactions apply, and what fee applies to a copy.

Other custodians keep their own images. MPD may hold a police or incident photo from the arrest itself. Collierville photographs some people during temporary holding, before transfer to county custody. TDOC FOIL can display a state offender photo where one exists. These are separate images made for separate records. BOP, USMS, and ICE offer no routine Shelby County booking photo substitute.

Private publishers sometimes keep copies after the official roster changes or drops them. Treat those pages with care, since copies can go stale fast. Look for the official source instead. Request the record from the holding agency, follow the court docket, and use a documented free correction route where one exists.

Shelby Jail Facilities and Transfers

The county jail system runs two adult facilities. Downtown/Main Jail holds men at 201 Poplar Avenue. Jail East holds women at 6201 Haley Road. SCSO's directory lists 901-222-4703 for Downtown Jail and 901-222-6600 for Jail East. The Youth Justice and Education Center operates separately, and juvenile matters are not ordinary adult booking content. See the facilities and their scale in this SCSO jail page.

Shelby County recent arrest jail facility and roster information

Shelby County splits adult custody across several systems, and no booking-photo gallery ties it all together. People move. An arrest in Shelby County is only the start of that movement. Transfers happen constantly. SCSO houses some pretrial inmates at regional facilities and moves sentenced people into state custody. Federal cases add another layer. Defendants held under U.S. Marshals contracts can later pass to the BOP. An ICE detainer may keep someone in local custody for a limited stretch. So an older facility statement can go stale. The booking stays historically accurate even after the person moves.

Use the roster for the current county result, VINELink for qualifying custody-change notices, FOIL for the Tennessee state felony layer, and the right federal locator when jurisdiction shifts. Never call a state prison a county jail, and never assume a transfer means release.

Shelby Arrest Records After Release

Release changes custody, not the record. The arrest still exists on paper. An IML search can return people already out of custody, though SCSO sets no fixed window for that option. An incident report may sit with a city police department. A court case can continue after release. A private archive may hold a copied card long after the official roster stops returning that name.

A name missing from the current roster proves nothing. Check released entries, transfer notices, spelling, identifiers, and court status. For certified proof, order the release verification. SCSO lists a $20 release-verification service, subject to its current fee and payment policy.

Older Shelby Arrest Archives

Old Shelby County arrest records raise a retention question. SCSO's public pages do not state how long it keeps booking sheets, photographs, release records, or electronic roster entries. Tennessee leaves that to approved schedules. Those schedules come from state and local records-management authorities working together. Retention varies by record series, trigger, and disposition method. Ask SCSO to name the approved record series. That covers jail bookings, booking photographs, release records, and roster entries. Ask for the retention period, the trigger, and whether older holdings get destroyed or transferred. That question seeks an existing schedule. It does not force staff to invent a history. The Tennessee State Library and Archives is a historical repository, not a live inmate search. Current Shelby booking photographs do not automatically move there at any set age. Historical requests work best with the agency, record series, date range, names, and any known accession or schedule number. Sealing or expungement can change access to an old record. Check juvenile status first. Also check the court disposition and any expungement order. An old private page never overrides a later lawful restriction.

Official Shelby Alerts and Media

The SCSO media page posts selected releases and lists the Public Information Office contact. Those releases explain operations, warrants, arrests, and charges. They are event-driven, though, never a complete booking ledger. The sheriff app carries news, tips, reports, and public-safety features but no verified roster function.

Memphis offers a public-safety dashboard updated daily. It reports aggregate numbers, not names. Collierville maintains a crime map refreshed every few days or daily, subject to reclassification. Bartlett posts department and records pages but no daily arrest feed. Each tool adds local context. None answers a named custody search.

Third-party and news sites come after the official channels. They help with discovery and context, but coverage is selective, fields get copied, and private correction rules govern fixes. A careful search records which source supplied each fact and when it was checked.

Note: "Current" can mean a daily statistic, a news story, a private sync, or a live custody result, and those are never the same thing.
