Check Shelby County Arrests on VINE

A VINE arrest check for Shelby County tracks one person's custody status and sends notice when it changes. Shelby County runs on Tennessee SAVIN. That system feeds VINELink for free county jail checks and alerts. Enter a name or identifier. Match the record. Then register for release or transfer notices. VINELink can lag a fresh booking, and it does not replace the roster, the court record, or the federal locator.

Check a Shelby Arrest on VINE

Use just enough detail to find the right person. Never enter another person's contact data into an alert registration.

  1. Open VINELink and select Tennessee.
  2. Choose the offender or custody search and select the Shelby County source when the interface offers a facility or county choice.
  3. Search by full name or an official identifier. Review all matches rather than choosing the first similar name.
  4. Compare the facility, status, identifier, and other returned details before opening the record.
  5. If no match appears, check the SCSO roster and call the jail before concluding the person is not in custody.

The VINELink search route is represented by this clean interface capture.

What VINE Shows After Arrest

Fields vary by agency and interface. Read a VINE result as a custody notice, not a full criminal history.

ItemMeaning and limit
Name or identifierHelps match the person; compare multiple details.
Custody statusStatus supplied by the participating agency.
Facility or jurisdictionWhere the record places the person when updated.
Release or transfer eventA reported status change, not a court disposition.
Notification controlStarts registration for offered contact methods.
PhotoNot guaranteed and not VINE’s core purpose.

A VINE result is never final. It can change after release, transfer, escape, return, work release, or movement to another jurisdiction. The county roster adds booking detail and CJS adds court history, so keep those roles separate.

Register for Shelby Custody Alerts

Registration starts from the matching record, usually through a control labeled “Get Notified” or “Register.” Options include phone, text, email, or TTY.

  1. Open the confirmed matching custody record.
  2. Select the notice or registration control and review the events offered.
  3. Choose a contact method and enter only your own phone number or email address.
  4. Complete any verification step and create or record the PIN when the service requests one.
  5. Keep the confirmation information so the registration can be managed later.

The statewide number is (888) TNVINE1, that is (888) 868-4631. Live operators answer there. Never call 911 for a routine custody check. A site charging a subscription fee is not the free official service Shelby County describes.

VINE Limits and Official Checks

VINE works only with data from participating agencies. A person may not show up right after an arrest, mid-transfer, or while held in a different system. Fresh arrests deserve a second check. Confirm through the same-day Shelby check and the SCSO IML roster. Call the county jail when timing matters for safety or planning. Federal custody sits outside VINE entirely. The Bureau of Prisons locator and U.S. Marshals channels handle federal matters, and an ICE detainer is not a county booking charge. Use the ICE detainee locator for that question.

VINE alone is not enough for an emergency or a legal deadline. Check the court portal for results.

County VINE and TDOC VINE

Shelby County SAVIN covers the county jail layer only. State custody is different. The Tennessee Department of Correction runs its own VINE service for state prisoners. Search by name or TDOC number, open the record details, and pick a notification method. TDOC notices can cover location, custody changes, transfers, sentence expiration, release, and parole eligibility. None of that equals a fresh Shelby County booking. Most county bookings are pretrial, misdemeanor, local-sentence, or otherwise outside the state custody population. Nor is an old TDOC result a new arrest. County-to-state moves switch the source. Record the booking number and TDOC identifier, then follow the system that currently holds the person.

When a VINE Match Is Missing

Start with spelling and name variants. Search the SCSO roster by name. Add a birth date or identifier if needed. The released-inmate option is worth a try. A person can be booked and released before any registration goes through. Then pick up the phone. SCSO answers at 901-222-5500. Downtown Jail is 901-222-4703, Jail East is 901-222-6600, and Records and Identification is 901-222-4944. These offices handle custody and official-record questions better than a private alert product. If Memphis, Bartlett, or Collierville police made the arrest, the incident report may exist before or apart from the county custody entry. That report documents the city event, not current jail status, so use the court portal for the final outcome. Note: A missing VINE match can mean delay, release, transfer, spelling, or nonparticipating custody; it does not prove no arrest occurred.

Managing VINE Arrest Notifications

Guard your confirmation details and PIN. Treat them like passwords. If your phone number or email changes, log in and update the registration yourself, since VINE has no way of finding a new contact on its own. The same PIN lets you adjust or cancel notices whenever the interface allows it.

An alert often lags behind the actual event. The agency holding the person must update its records first, and that step takes time. Plan around the delay. For urgent safety worries, call law enforcement or a victim-services office right away. VINE is a notification aid, not an emergency response system.

Release does not end a case. Someone can walk out of the jail while charges are still active, and a court outcome may come only after several moves in and out of custody. Skip the guesswork. Search CJS for hearings and results instead of reading legal meaning into an alert.

Custody status and guilt are separate matters. A person can be in custody while the court process has yet to run its course.

VINE Alerts and Court Status

A VINE release notice does not close a case. A person may leave the jail on bond, by court order, at the end of a sentence, or through some other authorized process while hearings are still on the calendar. Track what happens next in Shelby CJS. That court portal and VINE answer different questions. Treat them as separate tools rather than duplicate sources.

A transfer notice has its own gaps. It may not name the final destination. Nor does it prove that the person actually entered TDOC custody. Check FOIL once a case moves into the Tennessee felony custody layer. Federal matters follow a different path through the federal courts, the U.S. Marshals, or BOP. Keeping the jurisdictions straight stops an old county alert from being mistaken for a current location.

Victims and witnesses can also get registration help from the official Shelby County and TDOC victim-services contacts. Never publish a PIN or share another person's phone or email. The notice account belongs to the recipient. The custody record stays under the control of the participating agency.
